#45, #46

It's spring in Copenhagen. It's seriously spring. It's that kind of weather; when you go out you actually can feel the warmth from the sun on your skin.

I planned to write an entry on Sunday, but one of my friends lured me out in park. 7 hour later when I got home I was so tired it took me approximately 2 hours and 50 minutes to move from my couch to my bed.

So here we go, an new update.

I felt like celebrating spring this Sunday, so I wore the perfect summer dress. I just adore the color. It reminds me of summer and blue skies. What I love most about this dress is th fact that I don't need to wear a belt to make it look pretty.
I found this dress some months ago i COS and yes, you are right, you have seen this dress before. But I couldn't help my self. This one is new and so absolutely lovely that I broke my own rule for it, but you know what.. I don't care. Rules are to be broken, and this dress is worth it.

I didn't want to make a big deal out of a Sunday outfit. So I wore the dress with these pretty heart shaped earrings and and a pair of black ballerina shoes.

Yesterday was a stay-at-home-and-study day. So today I needed to do something extra. I wanted to play around with some 1940s hair, but victory rolls are so hard to make when your hair is too long.

My skirt is just a regular black pencil skirt I've found in a thrift show. I love black pencil skirts cause they re so practical and you can wear them casually during the day but also dress it up for a night out.
The blouse is one of those pieces of clothes I found in my parents attic some weeks ago. I remember buying this blouse. It's probably seven year old, and I'm always impressed how good it still looks svn though it's just as ordinary as a VILA product.

I'm retry sure you've seen both of these. The peacock is from a flea market her in Copenhagen and the earrings are from h&m. As simple as it gets.

#43, #44 - Feminine wearing pants or even rags

Sunday was a dance and pants day. Yesterday was a pants day, and hell... let us make today pants day as well.
Dresses have a special place in my heart, and I love to wear them but every now and then I go pants-amok. There is just something perfectly casual yet feminine in the combination of a pair of capri, cigar or what ever pants, a sweater and a pair of ballerina shoes. In some way this is essence of simplicity or rather casual femininity.

If you wear your pants high-waisted and you match them up with any kind of pre-1960s vintage hair you will get a classic and elegant look of the exact era you wish to represent.
Of course the lingerie plays a huge roll in this as well, but I'll come back to this part in one of my exceptions on the blog.

A lot of men don't like when women wear pants, they prefer their women in skirts cause skirts equal feminine. And even though I absolutely agree on this statement; That dresses and skirts are more feminine that trousers, I'd say that femininity doesn't lay in the clothes but rather in the appearance and how you carry yourself.
If you try to google Marilyn Monroe or Audrey Hepburn, you will see both of them wear pants and even jeans, but their charisma is so feminine that even if they were wearing rags, they would look feminine.
Or remember Marlene Dietrich and her suits?  A suit is one of the most masculine outfits of forever, yet Dietrich nails it every single time, and she is just to die for... every single time!

Of course skirts help you feel more feminine, but the best way to become feminine is by discovering it within yourself. And of course practice, practice and some more practice.
I believe that every woman has the femininity hidden somewhere underneath of decades of anti-patriarch and pro gender neutrality propaganda of the 1970s Red Stocking Feminism.
I bow in respect for the hard work that the Red Stocking feminist did for the liberation of the woman back in the day, without them we wouldn't have the opportunities we have today. But just because you are a feminist, doesn't mean that you have to cut your femininity and womanhood off. One doesn't have to rule out the other. I'm feminist, but I sure do my best to keep in touch with my feminine sides as well.

Don't hesitate; let a man open the door for you, thank him for the gesture and smile. Put a flower in your hair as decoration, use lipstick. Don't be afraid to be extravagant or even dramatic from time to time. Let a man help you carry your bags...
Keep your head up and smile. Relax your face, be aware of how you walk, talk and act... at a point all of these things will become just a part of you and you won't even notice it anymore. At that point it won't matter anymore weather you wear a ball gown, pants or even rags. You will always look feminine.

Yesterday I wore my 1940s inspired chiffon pants. I bought them in h&m two years ago. They are so lovely. unfortunately they are too big, so I need to keep them up with a belt. The shirt is approximately four years old, and I found it in Vero Moda. This is from a time where I still was figuring out how to do this vintage style surf.  I love the color and the pom-pons at the shoulder. I remember I wore it with a pencil skirt back then. And I just adored the style.
The hair I'm wearing is the same as here. This is so easy and quick and I love it when I need to get my hair out of the way in a creative and fancy way.
Still what you do to get this hair is: You use a long scarf and secure it on the top of the hair with a bobby pin.
2. You braid two braids. One on each side and secure them with a rubber band each. wrap the hair and the scar around the hair and tie it in a creative way. I usually tie it on the side.

The jewelry yesterday was basically non existing. I only wore my old plastic earrings, cause the hairdo and the shirt were details enough for the style.

Today I'm wearing pants cause I slept over and didn't have time to play around with dresses or skirts.
These pants are actually my dads old working pants. I stole them from him, long time ago, cause I always wished I had a boiler suit. So these were a compensation for the boiler suit.
I just adore these, they are so comfy, and they are perfectly big that I can wear them as a pair of high-waisted pants. They are too long as well so I always wear them rolled up.
The blouse I'm wearing is my favorite turtle-neck blouse. I'm not sure what I'll do when this gets worn out. I think I've had this one for almost 10 years, and as I recall it's a h&m pice.
I wen't all casual 1950s today. You know, like the american girls imitating the auto mechanics from mid-1950s. There is something light and very romantic and playful about that look.
The hair was just put up in a hight bun and kept in place with a scarf and bobby pins. The same as Sunday.

Earrings are bijouterie from h&m and the pin is one I bought on ebay a couple of weeks ago. I'm not sure if it's vintage or what ever, but I really don't mind, what I fell in love with is the fact that it is the eternity sign.

Oh yeah the shoes. This is one of those pairs I always forget I have. I bought them two years ago, I like the combination of the patent leather and the sateen fabric. I bought these in one of those cheap outlet shops in Copenhagen.

#37

I guess it's way overdue with my regular clothes posts. So today we'll take a regular outfit post.
It's spring in Denmark. The sun is shining and has done so since Saturday. Unfortunately spring means pollen as well, and I've apparently developed some kind of allergy toward spring... That means lot a crying and snuffling, which means no makeup, and a lot of compensation for that.

Today I'm of to a gallery opening for a photographer whom, amongst other, I've been modeling for the past year.
His project is pretty cool, and is called "Six Degrees of Copenhagen". Basically it's inspired by the whole mid-00s phenomenon of "Six Degrees of Separation". He's be taking pictures for five years now, and finally they will be displayed today. If you get a chance, go and check them out. Either on his page JensJuul.dk or visit the gallery: Banja Rathnov, Galleri & Kunsthandel, Museumsbygningen, Kastelvej 18, Copenhagen Ø. The pictures will be displayed until April 19th.

Would you believe if I told you that everything I'm wearing today is from h&m? Well it is. The shirt is I guess 4-5 years old, but I just love it cause it is made as broderie anglainse. It's made by puncturing small holes in the fabric as some kind of needlework. It's such a lovely fabric and I wish I had more clothes made that way.
I've bought the pants last summer, and they are perfect. They can go both as a 1960s look, but if you dress them in a certain way they look as one of those 1930s or 1940s pants with wide legs. But then again fashion is fluent and every decade is in some way inspired by an earlier decade.
And yes.. I'm showing off my stomach. I'm doing it to celebrate the spring. :)

I accessorized the outfit with pearls. It's been some times since I've been waring pearls, and frankly I've missed it. The brooch you know, it's the one I bought last month in Décor. The earrings and the ring are merely bijouteri.

And the hair.. Oh the hair.. I say this hairdo on youtube yesterday and just had to try it out. It's pretty simple, but you need some time to do it. But it's worth all the effort. I found it on a Russian channel, and they represented it as a bridal hairdo, but I thought today would be perfect to try it out. I used a couple of flowers just to make the do like more fresh and young.

#32, #33, #34, #35 - Summing up... forever

So, basically I'm not sure where the past week has gone. It's as if the days just slip through my fingers, and every morning I wake up, its a new week.

It's almost three months since I've started this crazy project. And actually I'm starting to feel that I'm getting to the end of my winter wardrobe. There is still a good amount of dresses and outfits, but I am getting to the least favorite of them now, and I don't have the same urge to show them of. I mean all of my dresses are nice, but it's as if I forget to take the pictures in the morning.

Last week was hard, and I ended up being home for two days, cause I caught some kind of bug.
But none the less this is a selection of the outfits I wore last week.

Monday: I found this dress on a flea market last summer. I was a bargain, and one wonders why. I almost ended up in an argument with my dad about this dress.  I still thinks it's as ugly as hell, and believe it or not, but I agree. None the less I love it. It's crazy, edgy, and it makes me smile every times I wear it.
I'm pretty sure this is a 1970s pice, but, the crazy colors aside, it has actually a very 1940s style. Both the collar and the cuffs have pretty 1940s details.

The Monday dress is more or less impossible to accessorize, cause it has way to much going on, so I just went with a simple pair of silver earrings. Mostly cause feel naked without earrings.

Tuesday and Wednesday I was at home, so this is the Thursday's dress. This is actually the dress I planed to wear all those times I ended up wearing pants. I had a date on Thursday, so I decided to wear a dress.
I love this dress. I actually designed it and my tailor in Montenegro made it for me. I just have a weakness for all things buttoned in the back.
It's inspired from the 1930s style, and actually it is supposed to be worn without a belt, but sometimes I wear it with a belt, just to give is some shape. I actually loved this dress so much that I asked my tailor to make me one more, but in different color.

Usually when I wear the green dress I wear this jewelry. These is just something about green and cold. It fits perfectly.

Friday... Well, I also had a date. I guess the Spring is on it way. So I wore a one of my many pencil skirts and and shirt I tend to forget I have. Usually I forget how pretty this shirt is. I've had it for ages and I bought it on sale in h&m. Once again it has this 1940s inspired style and color so with the right styling it ends up looking all vintage.

And today. Today I'm almost in the 1970s. If it wasn't for the shape of the collar and the style of the pants, I'd go for a Disco-Diva today.
Basically everything, except the hat, I'm wearing today is bought in some kind of high street shop.

You don't have to buy expensive and fancy clothes to look stylish and elegant. It about being creative, and of course taking care of the clothes you wear.
I always change when I get home, and I always wear my house coat at home. That's how I keep my clothes mint for several years, and even though they are bought in h&m og any other cheap hight street shop they look good and almost as new.

#29 - Orange

I mostly wear dark colors and I appreciate that you can get most clothes in black. Yet sometimes I get  a meltdown and I go crazy in colors. That's what happened on Monday. I got one of my meltdowns and I ended up wearing a pair of orange pants.

Originally these pants were a jumpsuit. I bought it on ASOS during the Christmas sale. Unfortunately it was only left in size xs, and even though I'm pretty slim my boobies are just to big for a size xs.
None the less I had to have it. Mostly because the color was so bold and it cost me less than 100 dkk!!
What I did; I made the jumpsuit in to a pair of pants, and what a lovely pair they became. They have the perfect wide legs and look like those pants you see on summer pictures from the 1940s USA.
I must admit it is pretty hard to pull of a pair of orange pants. It's hard to match them and well, everybody looks at you on the street.
What I did was to match them with black and red. To top the outfit I wore a pair of black mens-shoes.
I decited that the no matter what I chose it would look "wild" for a Monday in Denmark, so I accessorized the outfit with a simple hairdo and red roses at the ear.
I was nervous about how it would look, but I'd say it actually looks pretty good.  If nothing else it made me feel as if it was summer.

#26, #27, #28 - Summing up the Birthday Week

Basically last week was birthday week. I had three birthdays in a row, and when Sunday came I was toasted. I didn't even have energy to update the blog.
Yesterday I had to talk to the university, because apparently I was signed out due to being finished with my thesis two weeks ago even though I've just started. So those are the reasons why I'm summing up last week today.

Tuesday my friend Emma had birthday. She was turning 25, so we decided to surprise her and take her out for cocktails.
I wore this dress I've bought in COS last spring. It is such a lovely dress and very different from my style normally. I fell in love with the collar, and decided I needed to have it.
It has a 1960s mod look which is very lovely.
I had to stay at the library all day so it was import an for me that the outfit was comfortable, but could easily be accessorized to a night outfit.

I accessorized the dress very simple. the dress has so man y color that anything else but pearls would make it too heavy. The wristband is one I got from my untie. I doubt it has any value except that it is pretty. The earrings are one of the 20 pairs of pearl earrings I've got in my collection, and the butterfly is a hair clip I bought in h&m last Christmas.

Friday was Valentines Day, I actually didn't think about my outfit before a girl in  a show asked me weather I was wearing the outfit because of Valentines. I needed to control myself not to laugh. As if I would have so many dresses as I do if I celebrated Valentines day.
I had to buy some presents and I had a lunch date with one of my friends.
Anyhow the dress is from etsy, and I got it this summer. I actually remembered the dress being longer, but I just love the motive and the simplicity of it overall. So I wear it anyway.
I didn't accessorize the dress very much. I wore a ribbon just to get the hair away from my face and a pair of black ballerina shoes.

Friday night was time for the second birthday. My friend Maria was turning 27, and she had invited the girls for dinner.
I bought this dress last year, but this is the first time I'm wearing it. I had a very hard time finding a pair of shoes to go with this dress, but the T-steaps I bought for New Years Eve actually worked very well. I changed 4 pair of shoes before I found the perfect match. I found the dress on ASOS on sale, in it has such a nice 1930 of 1940s feel. Unfortunately it has a very, very, very low décolletage cut. So it in a way looses the vintage look, at least on my body.
It has a dark blue shade, and has two layers and the top layer is sheer.

I reused the earrings from Thursday, but the brooch is new. I bought it at this amazing vintage shop in Copenhagen called Décor. It's one of the oldest vintage shops in Copenhagen and the things you can get there are pure amazing. The owner of the shop has dated this brooch to somewhere in the 1950s and she said ti's diver. I don't think the pearls are real, but that really doesn't bother me, cause I fell instantly in love with it.

Saturday was Katja's birthday. She is a pretty new friends, but we have grown very close during the past six months. She is the one I went to Berlin with some weeks ago. And for he birthday I wanted to wear something special. I bought the dress in COS this Friday. They still have it, in black and this pretty sky-blue shade. I just fell in love with it. I feel somewhere between Alice, Cinderella and a nurse from the 1950's in this dress.
Even thought it's a modern dress it could have been made in the 1950s. The length of the sleeves, and  the neck line are very mid-1950s inspired. The hemline is below the knee and this blue shade is very mid-1950s as well.
Some how this dress just perfectly represents innocence.

This brooch is as well bought in Décor, and is originally from 1950s. The earrings are a present from my dear friend Asta. She gave them to me as a birthday present a couple of years ago. And the ring is bought in some cheap jewelry shop.

I know I'm wearing a different pair of shoes on the picture of the dress. But these are actually the shoes I chose to wear. I bought them in my favorite outlet shop in Copenhagen. They aren't the most comfy shoes I owe, but they are shade, and they are pretty, and I just love the detail with the buckle.

#25

I actually didn't plan to wear this outfit today. I planned to wear a green 1930s dress with buttons in the back, but during my breakfast I came across this really sweet 1940s hairdo, so it ended up deciding my outfit today.
I'll post a tutorial of the hairdo one of the days, cause it's so easy and so very cute. It requires longer hit, but I think most lengths would do it.

Click the image for bigger version
A close up of the hair. Basically the scarf is braided in to the hair.

I bought the shirt either in Vila, or Vero Moda a couple of years ago. The tag was annoying so I cut it of. It's a very classical pice, and I can go with everything basically. It used to be more white, but two months ago I washed it with something red, and I ended up with a pink shirt - not my cup of tea. So in stead of discarding it, I dyed it in black tea. It was a success, and in my opinion the color is actually nicer.
Regarding the skirt - it has a funny story. I have thing for clothes that have buttons in the back, so one day in november I was dreaming of how I could redesign one of my regular pencil skirt in to one that buttons in the back. The next day I was on my way home from the Library and by accident I to a wrong turn. Right in front of me was this thrift shop. I went inside and browsed around, I didn't find anything until I saw a black skirt. I took it and looked at it and behold - it was the skirt I was dreaming of barely 24 hours earlier. And the best part; it cost me 25 Dkr. (€3).
The boots - it was snowing today, again, in Copenhagen, so the solution - to wear Wellingtons.

I've shown the fingerings earlier, but the earrings are new. They were a present from my auntie from Sweden that was visiting my parents during the weekend. They are probably from the 80's, but in a way they remind med of the saucer hat from the New Look era, so I decide to like them.

#20 - Pants

Oh my God. Oh my God! Oh. My. God! Call the vintage fashion police... She is wearing pants!
Yep, I'm wearing pant, and I love to wear pants from time to time. I only have five or six pairs, but I love to wear them, especially when the weather can't decide whether it should be cold or mild.

Even though you mostly will see women wearing skirts, pice suits or dresses on vintage pictures, you will be surprised that pants were very common all the way back to the 1920s.
I like to break the clichés of the vintage fashion, and pants (and jump-suits) are perfect in that matter.

I found these tweed pants on etsy this summer. They are wool (of course) and probably somewhere from the 1930s. Most pants you see from that era are high-waisted and with very wide legs. I'm looking for a pair of those, but since I'm very, very, very, picky when it comes to pants, I haven't found the perfect pair yet.
I love these, they are warm, and they are even lined, which is very rare in modern pants. I love the feeling the silky linen has toward my legs when wearing stockings. It's had to go back to modern pants when you've tried a vintage pair.
The shirt is a moderne pice I found, I think, in Vero Moda a couple of years ago. It has a very 1940s look with the collar and being without sleeves.
The cardigan is the same I wore yesterday. But with the brown buttons and the details of the cardigan I feel like a golf-player from 1920s. I like the how the feminine waist and the slightly finger-waved hair works with the more masculine features of the outfit.

The earrings and the fingerings are both from h&m. They were a bargain. I got them with 75% off, and I couldn't resist even though I don't wear fingerings very often. I like the playfulness of five rings and the combination of black and gold.

This guy I found ages ago in a small suitcase I found on a junk-yard  The small suitcase was filled with funny jewelry that mostly looked like something from the 1980's. I still got most of the jewelry, but this cutie is my favorite.

A close up of the earrings.

I found these shoes at an outlet shop. They are worn out, but they are comfy as hell, and I have hard time letting go of comfy shoes. :)
