#13, #14, #15, #16

It's been seriously a long time since my last update, but to tell you the truth it's been a long time since I've been wearing real clothes.
Last Monday I turned in my papers after a weekend with more or less no sleep. Approximately four hours later I crashed and was sick for more than a week. When I was done being sick, I had to catch up with the world so posting blogs wasn't possible.
I'll try to sum up the past week and just show the dresses to you in some kind of order.

Monday: This black dress is from ASOS, and I've got a couple of them in the same style. This is one of those pieces of clothes I love to wear as often as possible, cause it's sexy, and casual at the same time. Plus it is so very comfortable.

Wednesday: This one I bought in COS some years ago. But I sew it together in the front to give it more of a sack-dress look. I like the simplicity of this dress, and the fact that it is wool, and so darn warm.

Thursday night I had the pleasure of visiting the the Royal Ballet Theatre in Copenhagen and watch the Mariinskij Group perform the Swan Lake. And what a performance it was!
For the first time since the New Years Eve I had a chance to dress up, and dress up was exactly what i did. I didn't want to go glamour overload, so I found something in the middle. A black silk shirt and a heavy woven skirt that actually is from h&m

Friday: I had a date with my old boss Henrik List whom I used to work for as a PA some years ago. He is this cool, politically incorrect, author that is very much inspired by the writers from the beat-generation and is probably the only danish journalist and writer that can get close to the genre of Gonzo Journalism
Basically after I stopped working for him, we continued our relationship as friends (who wouldn't?) and for the first time in ages we met up yesterday to catch up and share old-time stories.
So I baked him cup cakes, and chose a dress that would suit his perfectly corrupted mind and taste.
He used to be a rockabilly back in the days - apparently a time where rockabillies had to be tough and rough and got in street fights side by side with Hells Angels. He still has a love for the styles of 1950s and 1960s and the curves of that era.
So to honor him, I chose something tight, simple, and sexy and "Mad Men" inspired, with just the perfect pinch of a vulgar décolletage.

#12 - Keeping Up Appearances

I do love vintage clothes, and I do love to look pretty, and my how I adore corsets, stockings, silky dresses, red lipsticks, cinnamon, spice and everything else nice.
But at the end of the day when I have to use my mind and sit in a chair for 48 hours straight I want it loose, practical, cozy and warm.

I want to be able to curl up in my couch or chair. I wan't to be able to scratch my boobies if necessary and basically look as I feel - miserable.

I'm so very sorry if this has ruined an illusion of a vintage diva, but to be honest; I don't belong neither in the category of vintage nor diva. I'm a realist, and for me the dresses, stockings, corsets and vintage aesthetics in general is something that has to be a pleasure, not a chore or a thing I have to do to keep up some sort of appearances.

I wear the feminine and vintage clothes for my own sake; because I like the style, fabric and the idea of wearing something with a history. Not because I want to show a stereotyped and staged image of myself in era that is long-gone.

Basically, this is what I've been wearing the past four days; my not happy face, no bra, sweats, HushPuppies and a tee.

#11 - New Year's Eve

Sorry about the delay guys. I have a paper due Monday, and basically I'm fckd! Gotta write 11 more pages  the next 48 hours to get this one done and passed. But here is what I did for the New Year's Eve.

I didn't have any great plans for the New Year's Eve this year, so I decided to join  my parents and their friends when I was invited.

Luckily my parents are somehow as crazy as you can get, and I guess I'm getting old enough to enjoy their company and recognize their craziness in myself as well.
The party was actually anything but dull and my dress was the object of full attention during the
night.
I must say, I would have been green of envy if the dress in fact wasn't mine, and to think I almost didn't buy it…

Remember to press the picture for bigger view
I found this dress on Etsy and fell in love with it immediately. I loved the color, the details and it reminded me of a dress my Barbie doll used to have. I wasn't though sure if it was an original 1950s piece or an 1980s repro - the neck line confused me.
At the same time and in the same store I found two other dresses (#6  is one of them) whom I just had to have in my collection. So I took my chances and bought all three plus one skirt. Even got a discount which was quite nice.
Counting days the dresses arrived in the end of november. At the first glance I could see this dress was not a repro, but a original pice from the first half of the 1950s.
The length has the right New Look length.
The zipper is metallic which is a good indicator of vintage, since metallic zipper are rarely used today, and the buttons on the front are metal as well. Unfortunately this dress has no tags, but that makes me believe it's tailor made.

The hair was improvisation. I knew I wanted to do something over the top. So what I basically did was to roll the front section in to a faux bangs. The left side was pinned down and the right curled up in 4 victory-roll shaped roles. Once again I cheated with the back section. I secured it with a rubber band in a pony tail, and sculpted a bun. I accessorized the hair with some jewelry.

I knew I wanted something silver with simile stones to match this dress.  I was sure the silver would give it a cooler and more icey look, and I was right.  I have a serious weakness when it comes to shiny thing so I bought bijouterie, and a lot of it to accessorize the dress.

Both pair of shoes are new. They are last minute shopping. I needed a pair of pumps for the party, and yes, the 50 pairs I've got in my wardrobe just didn't fit the dress. So I found these, and they are perfect; the hight is good, they are suede and have a 1950s feel about them.
I saw the plats in h&m and had to have them. I have so many flats I even forget I have them, but look at the stones! When I wear them I feel like a  Disney princess or like Elizabeth Taylor from one of the early-1960s movies. So you see… I had to have them.

I wish you all a good new year and ha happy weekend!
